Sevilla tried to sign Van Persie

Sevilla’s sporting director Monchi has revealed that he tried to sign former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie during his career.

He said that the player was then still playing in the Netherlands and he made the trip to Rotterdam in order to secure his signature.

He believes that the player was interested to make a move to Spain but unfortunately for Sevilla, Arsenal came in with a bigger and better offer and the Dutch international choose to make the move to London.

Monchi believes that Robin van Persie would have been a wonderful addition to Sevilla and that he would have allowed them to win more trophies. He said that the Dutch international was one of the best players of his generation and he has proved his worth by ending as the Premier League top scorer in several occasions.

Monchi said that he understands Robin van Persie’s decision to move to Arsenal as their offer was far better than the one Sevilla could afford at that time. He said that things have changed now and that Sevilla can now afford to buy the best players.

Robin van Persie went on to have a successful career with Arsenal where he will end the Premier League campaigns as the top scorer. Later on, he will make the move to Manchester United where he will manage to win the much coveted Premier League title.

The Dutch player said that he does not regret any of the decision of his career and that he made a move to Old Trafford as he wanted to win trophies. He said that at that time there were no signs that the Gunners would be investing massively in the team and he thought that he made the best decision by moving to Manchester United.
