Robin van Persie to stay at Feyenoord for another season

Dutch outfit Feyenoord have confirmed that Robin van Persie has decided to prolong his stay with the club for another season at the least. The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker re-joined his hometown club during the winter transfer window and managed to contribute impressively with seven goals and one assist in just 14 appearances.

Despite this, Van Persie admitted that he would assess his future at the end of the campaign and Feyenoord have now confirmed that the Netherlands international will remain at the club for another campaign at the least, their statement read: “Robin van Persie has agreed to add one more season to his playing career at De Kuip. The club recently made it known through technical director Martin van Geel, head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst and others that Feyenoord wanted to keep hold of the striker. The 34-year-old has now said that would like to play for one more season.”

Van Persie has had regular concerns over his fitness over the course of his career but he has nevertheless made a lasting impression for both club and country. At present, the Dutchman has been plying his trade in more of a central midfield role but this has not reduced his importance further up the field where he has contributed with both goals and assists.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord appear in a development phase after surrendering their title to PSV Eindhoven with ease this term. The Dutch outfit picked up their first league title since 1999 during their successful campaign in 2017/18 and Van Persie will be hoping to revive their prospects next season although he does not have the same intensity to his play - compared to his prime period with Arsenal and Manchester United. Van Persie has yet to retire from international duty with the Netherlands and he is currently their all-time goalscorer with 50 goals from 102 caps.
