Robin Van Persie is regarded as one of the finest strikers

Robin Van Persie is regarded as one of the finest strikers to have graced English football in the last decade.

However, his fall from grace has been incredibly dramatic in the last couple of years. Only in 2013, he helped Manchester United win the league title in what turned out to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in management. It also turned out to be the only time Van Persie won the Premier League title despite having been in the division for almost a decade. Since then, he has been performing very poorly and this led to his move to Fenerbahce last summer.

The Dutchman was expected to hit his peak once again at the Turkish club, but the disappointing spell has continued for the former Arsenal forward. Surprisingly, he has been put up for sale by Fenerbahce and could be on the move once again in the space of just over 12 months. In his debut campaign in Turkish football, Van Persie came up with a respectable 20 goals in 45 appearances. However, Fenerbahce do not believe that these figures justify a top name striker and they are once again keen on strengthening the forward positions in the hope of retaliation from Galatasaray for a reported 2015-16 season.

Van Persie joined Fenerbahce for only around £ 4 million after having initially moved to Manchester United for around £ 24 million. “Van Persie? We’re waiting for buyers, if he wants to be sold,” confirmed the president of the club,AzilYildirim, when asked about the future of the club’s star striker. Last season, the club surprisingly failed to win the league title even with the absence of Galatasaray as a real challenger. Besiktas ended up winning the Turkish league title by a five-point advantage over Fenerbahce, while Galatasaray could only finish sixth.
