NEWCASTLE WANT TO SIGN £45M STAR ONCE COMPARED TO ROBIN VAN PERSIE

According to reliable journalist Christian Falk, Newcastle United are interested in Chelsea forward Timo Werner. All eyes are on Newcastle as Eddie Howe has his first opportunity to use the significant investment from the club’s new owners in a summer transfer window. So far Newcastle have brought Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Matt Targett to Tyneside, and now the Magpies are aiming to reinforce their attacking options before the start of the season.

Newcastle have already been linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja and talented youngster Benjamin Sesko to compete with Callum Wilson and Chris Wood up front.

And now, BILD journalist Christian Falk is reporting that Timo Werner has joined the list of potential forwards that Eddie Howe wants to add to his Newcastle squad. After so much hype when he joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig two seasons ago for £45m, his time in the Premier League has not gone to plan. Described at the time as a ‘young and exciting, yet established and proven’ talent and once compared to Robin van Persie, Werner has only scored ten league goals for Chelsea and found himself dropped in favour of Kai Havertz for much of last season.
Thomas Tuchel’s preference to not use a traditional centre forward in his Chelsea set-up, combined with the signing of Raheem Sterling from Man City, is likely to see Werner’s minutes limited even further. As reported back in December, Werner shares an agent with Newcastle defender Fabian Schar, which may improve their chances of signing the forward.
It will be interesting to see if Newcastle will go ahead and sign the forward in the current summer transfer window or if they will not mind waiting till the January winter transfer window before they make their move.
