MANE EQUALS RECORD HELD BY RVP

Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane has equalled the Premier League record held by Dutchman Robin Van Persie (RVP) after he became only the second player to score in eight successive games against the same team. Mane scored twice in the 2-0 win at home to Crystal Palace in the last game of the season to equal the record set by Robin Van Persie.

RVP set the record when he scored in eight successive matches against Stoke City. The Dutchman played for both Arsenal and Manchester United in the Premier League for over a decade. He was a Premier League footballer between 2004 and 2015.

Mane was able to match the record after he produced an impressive display for Liverpool in a game that the Merseyside giants needed to win to secure a place in the Champions League ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. The Senegalese international scored twice against the Eagles either side of the interval to secure the three points for his team and also propel them to Champions League qualification. The win made sure that Liverpool also finished the season as the third best team after the Manchester duo of Manchester United and Manchester City.

Dutch international Robin Van Persie would have been proud with the way Mane was able to withstand the pressure of his team needing a win against Palace to score the goals that ensured that he matched the Dutchman's impressive Premier League record.

The goals from Mane took his tally to 11 goals for the Reds this season. The for Red Bull Salzburg FC of Austria and Southampton player produced 11 goals and 7 assists in 35 games in the league. He had earlier scored against Crystal Palace when the clubs met earlier in the season. Mane scored one of the goals as Liverpool thumped the Eagles 7-0 away from home in December.
